More Vacant South Loop Land

By Fred Scovell
The South Loop saw the initial demolition of six buildings at the CHA Harold Ickes Development located at the south east corner of Cermak and State Street in 2009.  The balance of the remaining high rises have now been slated for demolition as well,  leaving a wide swath of vacant land. What will replace these buildings? The Olympics are no longer coming to Chicago and the South Loop. There is a glut of unsold developer condos and lenders have drawn their purse strings closed for new development-both residential and commercial. How long do you think the land will remain vacant?
